PASCO, Wash. - Two men are beat up in the Franklin County Jail and the victims who are also inmates are seriously hurt.
Inside the jail a man was beaten so badly he needed 25 stitches and ended up losing an eye. The assault happened in January between the men while they were both locked up in jail.
Raymond Riojas Cuellar Junior is accused of beating up James Lewis with closed fists and a towel filled with a bar of soap. He's now charged with a felony. However, it's not the first serious assault in the Franklin County Jail. Prosecutors said they're reviewing another similar incident. Prosecutor Steve Lowe said it's something he takes very seriously.
On Wednesday, the Franklin County Sheriff said the assaults are normal but when we checked with Benton County Jail they said they've never had a second degree assault in the facility. They said the closest thing they've had is a fist fight were an inmate's jaw was broken.
The Franklin County Sheriff declined our requests for an interview about the assault.
