Group linked to al-Qaeda claims responsibility for downing helicopter
A group linked to the terrorist organization, al-Qaeda,, which calls itself the Islamic State in Iraq, claimed on its website that it had shot down the helicopter. The U.S. Military has not confirmed this, but the Associated Press reports an Iraqi air force officer said the helicopter was downed by an anti-aircraft missile. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release information.
Earlier on Wednesday, coalition forces, led by the U.S., were holding two suspected terrorists believed to have ties to an al-Qaeda cell north of Baghdad. The forces also seized several weapons and materials commonly used to make explosives.
