RICHLAND, Wash. -- Marine Sergeant and Richland native Travis Pfister was killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq. But, former co-workers said Pfister had a lasting impact on the people he worked with.
Before going to Iraq he spent almost two years working at the Les Schwaab in Richland. Fellow employee and family friend Bill Wedberg says that Travis was known was for his hard work and the smile he brought everyday to work.
Wedberg says that he had known Travis since he was five and that it was a pleasure to see him grow up. He says that while at Les Schwab Travis was an honest kid who was always making other employees laugh. Wedberg says the young marine will truly be missed.
He says, "He was like a family member to me and we were always together, and it was something like here at work we could treat each other as employees but were also family members at the end of the day."
Wedberg says Travis always called him Uncle Bill. He says the most difficult part of Pfister's death is that the young marine was just weeks away from finishing his third Iraq tour and coming home.
