Exotic Dancing in the Tri-CitiesPosted: Updated:
TRI-CITIES, Wash. - Police said prostitution has moved from the street corner to behind closed doors. And while some exotic dancing companies, like the ones that advertise in our local paper are legitimate, police said some are a front for sex.
Behind closed doors, in homes across the Tri-Cities, men are paying hundreds of dollars for exotic dancers.
"It could be your neighbor it could be your boss it could be brother family your husband and you wouldn't have no idea," said one local dancer who goes by the name Ruby.
Ruby said she's a 20-year-old exotic business owner and starts to paint a picture of what the business is like.
"It gets addicting to them really addicting" said Ruby.
During an interview with KNDU in January, Ruby said she does not perform sex acts or have sex with her clients and does not authorize the women she employs to do so either. But the dances, she said, are risque.
Police said they're aware some dancers are having sex for money but for the most part it's too tough to prove.
"It takes a lot of resources and frankly we don't have them in this department," said Richland Police Captain Mike Cobb.
The Kennewick Police Department agrees, but they are investigating a 36-year old woman who they say "knowingly employed a 15-year-old and made her perform for men". The rest of the details are too graphic for us to tell you. The woman has yet to be charged with a crime
"We were getting complaints about motel 6," said Cobb.
The Richland Police Department had two plain clothes officers go to the hotel where they said a young woman dressed in underwear offered her services. According to police she offered $150 for dancing and $250 for "more".
Police arrested the 20-year-old who goes by the name Ruby for prostitution. Marion Aragon was also arrested at the motel and booked into jail for the same charge.
Ruby first interviewed with KNDU before she was arrested. We learned she'd been arrested from Richland Police. At the time of the interview, she said she did nothing more than dance. She did tell KNDU it's the first time she's ever been in trouble for this type of crime.
"She offered sex and she was arrested," said Cobb.
