KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Stores here in the Tri-Cities and across the country are recalling certain brands of peanut butter.
General Value and Peter Pan Peanut Butter with a product code beginning with 21-11 are being recalled because some are believed to be contaminated with salmonella. The product code is located on the lid of the jar.
In our check of local grocery stores, Wal-Mart is the only chain carrying these types of peanut butter. They say they have already pulled the peanut butter but we found some Thursday night in the Kennewick store still on the shelf. One store says they pulled as many as 400 jars.
Nationally, The Center for Disease Control says over 300 cases of salmonella have been reported since August and 85% of those said they had eaten peanut butter.
