Benton-Franklin Republicans Speak Out

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Local Republicans weighed in tonight on the growing Iraq debate. Representative Doc Hastings says the Houses's passage of the resolution against Iraq sends the wrong message to troops.

He says, "We don't want to send a signal that we are not behind our troops. I am disappointed that it passed."

Democrats say that it is not of the "national interest" to send more troops to iraq. About 160 Benton-Franklin Republicans met tonight for their annual Lincoln Dinner to raise money and discuss the state of American politics.

Benton-Franklin Republican Chairman Patrick McBurney says, "What we can do is focus on making a difference in the next election cycle so that the next Congress can make different decisions, make different judgments about our troops."

Democrats have a dinner similar to the Lincoln dinner called the Jefferson dinner. Both are designed to kick off the new political year and raise money for the parties.
