Five People Stabbed in Downtown Yakima

Posted: Updated:

Yakima - Five people were stabbed in a parking lot outside Pete's Nightclub around 9:00 PM Sunday night.  The incident started after an amateur rap competition at Pete's.  The winning group got into a heated argument with one of the losing groups.  The scuffle spilled out into the street, eventually ending up in the parking lot just across the street from the club.

Police have the man in custody that they believe is responsible for the stabbings.  Twenty one year old Israel Santillan was picked up in his Zillah home, after being identified by several eye witnesses.

Yakima Police say that the scene was packed following the fight.  At one point they estimated 6,200 people crowded around to see what was going on.  The Yakima Fire department had to come in to help sort through the crowd and get the victims to the hospital.

Two of the victims were released Sunday night from the hospital.  The other three were still in care Monday, listed in critical condition.  One man was stabbed in the neck.  Police say that the injuries are serious, but not life threatening.

If convicted, Israel Santillan faces five counts of first degree assault.
