Secretary of State Says New Statewide Database is Having an Impact
YAKIMA, Wa - The Secretary of State says the new consolidated statewide voter registration system has been a huge success in its first year.
Last year, the statewide system put all 39 county databases into one system in effort to cut down on fraud in Washington elections.
The Yakima County Auditor says the new system can catch even the smallest differences between voters.
"I know there's some duplicates with the same name and birth date between one county and another, and they are able to tell these two people are different people," says Corky Mattingly, Yakima County Auditor.
The Secretary of State released all the registrations they canceled last year. The numbers are pretty staggering... Nearly 40,000 duplicate voter registrations, more than 40,000 deceased voter registrations, 4,500 felon voter registrations and almost 92,000 active or inactive voter registrations.
