February is National Dental Health Month, and today a classroom of third grade students learned about oral health and dental care.
A representative with the Yakima Health District visited Pauline Barnett's third grade classroom today at Mountainview Elementary.
Yakima County Oral Health Coordinator Heather Young taught students the importance of flossing and brushing their teeth regularly, along with the dangers of sugar.
She says cavities are a growing problem in Yakima County, and that is why the Health District is starting to teach children directly..
Young says she has been visiting schools in the county for the past year. And not just elementary schools, she also teaches high school students about the way meth and tobacco can affect your teeth.
And today she handed out a free toothbrush to each student.
