Mayor Says Toxic Site Already Cleaned Up

BENTON CITY, Wash. - The Benton City Maintenance Yard made the Department of Ecology's list of toxic sites, but the mayor says they don't own the property anymore.

Brian Robinson says not only did the city sell that property, but it's already been cleaned up.

Gasoline tanks were removed from the property in 1997, but there was evidence of contamination.  Robinson says it was later cleaned up, so he's working to track that information down for Ecology.

Two other Benton County sites made the list, Chevron Chemical Company in Kennewick, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Whitcomb Island Farm in Paterson.
