Students are getting back to class in Kittitas County, after an outbreak of a flu-like illness.
The Public Health Department is advising any children with flu-like symptoms to stay home from school. Health officials are trying to keep absentee rates below 10 percent.
The community health services manager says that's one of the only ways to prevent spreading illnesses. She says teachers try to keep kids clean and healthy in their classrooms, but "when you've got a room of 20 plus kids coughing and sneezing, touching things and everything, it's next to impossible," Bonnie Corns said.
Corns says most children have learned to cough into their sleeves and wash their hands regularly, they just aren't staying home when they're sick.
