YAKIMA, Wa - The Yakima County Justice Center near State Fair Park is finally open -- and inmates are moving in.
110 inmates moved in today -- about 70 of them coming from King County.
The new jail will hold 288 inmates.
King county has contracted with yakima county to house many of them.
The department of corrections says the jail could be completely filled by the end of the year.
"We feel very confident," says Chief Michael Williams of the Yakima County Department of Corrections, "The staff is excited about operating it. It's a state of the art building. The systems are brand new. We're excited about being here."
Chief Williams says 30 inmates from the main county jail downtown will move in later this week, bumping the total number up to 144, or about half capacity
