YAKIMA, Wa - A recent report from the website zillow.com shows property values in Yakima County are up more than 13% from last year.
There are several factors, but more than anything, it's baby boomers from the west side buying second homes. They come to getaway from the rain and traffic -- and plan to retire here.
Property values in the county actually dipped about five percent last quarter... But 2006 saw an increase overall. The biggest boom is in Naches.
Zillow.com says property values there went up more than 23%.
"Cost of construction is going up... lumber, steel, labor. Another thing is the affordability factor. Central Washington homes are very affordable compared to the state," says Dan McLaughlin of the Buyer's Agent.
He says property values are much lower in Yakima County than most of the state, and he doesn't see home values leveling off for another five years.
