YAKIMA, Wash - Coriann Wood scored a game-high 24 points, leading Connell past fifth-ranked Naches Valley 60-45 on Saturday for fourth place in the Class 1A girls state tournament. Wood scored 17 points in the second half as the Eagles (21-6) turned back a late Rangers rally. It was Connell's second win over Naches Valley in eight days, having beat them 49-40 in overtime in the district championship last week. Wood made 8 of 15 shots, and was 4 of 6 behind the 3-point line. She also had three blocks and two assists. Teammate Debbie Molsbarger added 20 points, and Julie Hawkins chipped in 11 points and 13 rebounds. The Rangers (22-5), trailed the entire game, but closed to within 40-39 with 4:26 to play. Wood and Molsbarger then followed with consecutive 3-pointers and Naches Valley never got closer than five points again. Megan Mortimer led Naches Valley with 18 points, and Monique Wickenhagen and Jordan Huck each had 10. Wickenhagen also had eight rebounds and three steals.
