Yakima City Council Debates Ways to Fund Public Safety

Posted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wa -   Proposition One failed last November -- but the city council isn't giving up -- they still want 13 more police officers.

The plan they are putting together this time around has been scaled back considerably from last November, but they still need 1.7 million dollars to make it happen.

They decided against an admissions tax or a card room tax for casinos after last night's city council meeting.

City Councilwoman Susan Whitman says getting a new comnuity safety action plan passed is still there number one priority.

"The important thing is we're working on it," says Whitman, "We're not stopping.  Now that a couple of things are off the table, doesn't mean we're not doing anything."

Whitman says they have not set a timetable to put a measure before voters.
