Early Morning Fire in Yakima

Yakima, WA - Just after midnight Wednesday morning, Yakima Fire responded to a call on 310 Thorton Lane.  It took the firefighers about three hours to put the fire out.  The side of the house was signifigantly burned, but fire crews managed to keep most of the fire from getting into the house.

A family of six lives in the house.  The fire was first discovered by a 17 year old who was sleeping in the basement.  He woke up and noticed smoke filling the room.  He alerted the rest of the family, who was able to get out alive.  The house was not eqipt with working smoke detectors.  Yakima Fire estimates around $25,000 worth of damamge to the home.  They're still investigating the cause of the fire.
