Richland Grad Spurs Gonzaga Shut-out

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga freshman, and Richland High School graduate, Jeremy Stumetz pitched a complete-game, four-hit shutout as the Bulldogs beat University of Washington 12 to 0 today in Spokane. That broke the Huskies' nine-game winning streak. The right-hander from Richland made his first college start and limited the Huskies to four singles and a walk, while striking out six for his first victory. Gonzaga improved its record this season to 15 and 11, while the Huskies went to 11 and 9. The Bulldogs had a dozen hits, including Darin Holcomb's first homer of the season, against five Huskies pitchers. Harrison Bishop was the losing pitcher. Washington will open its Pac-10 season with a three-game series on Friday through Sunday against Washington State in Pullman.
