Governor Gregoire Wins Battle Over Newborn Medicaid

Posted: Updated:

Olympia, WA - Two weeks ago Governor Chris Gregoire filed a lawsuit against the federal government to stop discrimination against newborn U.S. citizens.  A fedral law had been proposed to withhold Medicaid coverage for babies born in the United States to illigal immigrants until an application with proof of citizenship is approved.  The Governor felt this denied them their equal rights, as every baby born on U.S. soil is a United States Citizen.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services have now annouced that they now treat equally all babies born in the U.S. and stop their new policy.  About 8,000 newborn children in Washington would have been affected by these new rules.
