YAKIMA, Wash.- Expect delays on highway 12 between 16th and 40th Avenue all week long. Flooding on the Naches River has Department of Transportation crews busy with emergency repairs.
Crews are working to save the highway from the swollen waters of the Naches River that continue to devour the highway's foundation. Large rocks, referred to as "riprap", are being carefully placed in the river and along the roadbed in sharp triangular shapes called "barbs". The barbs extend out into the river to force the current away from the side of the highway.
Make sure you plan ahead before you head out the door- repair work will continue for the rest of the week, with restrictions on the eastbound lanes of the highway.
