Baugher in Court in Colorado Friday as his Family Speaks out for First Time
WALLA WALLA, Wash.- Lars and Remi Baugher are back home in Walla Walla.
The two were reportedly kidnapped by their father John almost a week ago, and for the first time, his family is speaking out.
Baugher appeared in a Colorado courtroom Friday, delaying another hearing until next week so he can get a lawyer.
His brother thinks this was a last ditch effort to fix the system by a man who felt it was the only way.
He says his brother was falsely accused of child abuse last July and lost custody.
When he finally got visitation rights back, the father thought the children were being abused by someone else close to the family and said authorities did nothing about it.
"Imagine for a second that, you know, Joelle was separated from them for four days and you can see in her face how she, you know, she's incredibly upset and imagine if that went on for six months, how she might look. That's about the mental state that my brother was in," said Mark Baugher, John's brother.
During that period mark says he saw his brother become extremely depressed and that's what led to him taking the kids.
Throughout all this, he says John should face whatever punishment he's given and they're just glad the kids are back safe.
John Baugher is being held in the Clear Creek County Jail in Georgetown, Colorado.
He faces federal charges of flight to avoid prosecution and is also facing charges of custodial interference in Walla Walla.
