KGH- Protecting Babies from Abduction

Posted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- KGH nurses are taking new precautions to make sure an infant is not abducted from their hospital.

An alarm sounds if a baby's arm band is tampered with, or if they are taken outside of a designated area. Reader boards around the hospital then tell nurses where the security breech is. Hospital doors are also locked shut.

Nurses say so far all alarms have been set off accidently, but that parents appreciate them.

The KGH foundation gave enough money to buy 120 of the Safe Place arm bands. The bands also have a separate piece for mothers that allows new moms to make sure they are taking home the right baby.
