RICHLAND, Wash. -- A violent situation unfolds in Richland. It happened at the Ace Hardware store on Keene Road around seven this morning.
Two construction workers told police that they saw 18-year-old Travis Allen Haug stealing wallets and cell phones from their parked car.
They confronted him and he allegedly punched one of the victims in the face. Police say the two men chased after him. He threw their wallets to the ground but police say he also left his wallet at the scene too.
Richland Police Officer Darryl Judge says, "It (the wallet)was was a big help. It was also pretty early in the morning so there wasn't a lot of foot or vehicle traffic."
Haug was booked into Benton County Jail for second degree robbery. The victim was not seriously hurt. Police say a case like this, where the suspect leaves self-incriminating evidence behind, only happens about once a year.
