YAKIMA, Wash.- Get ready to pay more for that gallon of million at the grocery store. Dairy economists predict the retail price of milk could rise as much as 30 cents per gallon by fall. The average retail price of whole milk could rise to three dollars and 35 cents per gallon by October, up from three dollars and seven cents in January. The reasons for the jump include rising fuel and feed costs for farmers.
