YAKIMA, Wa - The Committee for Downtown Yakima wants downtown businesses to help out with the bill to cleanup the area.
They're asking the city to double its assessment fees for downtown businesses. That extra money will be used to clean up litter and to put in more potted plants and flowers.
They estimate that it will cost about $170,000 dollars a year to keep downtown clean and presentable, but businesses think it will help them in the long run.
"Nobody likes to pay more," says Joe Mann, owner of Ron's Coin and Books, "But if they know where that money is going, then they're behind it."
Yakima City Council will vote on the proposal to double assessment fees at tomorrow night's city council meeting.
