COWICHE, Wa - Growers are dealing with some really cold overnight temperatures this week.
Orchards along Washington Avenue were completely frosted over. A new record low was set last night. It was as low as 17 degrees in places around the Yakima Valley.
Evans Fruit in Cowiche says its apple orchards appear to be okay, but it was a long night for them.
"My frost alarm went off around 12:30am last night and it was just a battle of keeping the wind machines running and keeping the water on the trees," says Joe Ware, a forman with Evans Fruit.
He says it could've been worse if they were closer to bloom time, but that's still a month away. Night time temperatures will warm up this week, but it could dip below freezing again tonight.
