Yakima City Council Doubles Assessment Fee for Downtown Businesses
Yakima, WASH - The downtown region of Yakima will soon clean up streets, side walks, and even add safety officers. The Committee for Downtown Yakima has proposed that the assessment fee for businesses double, so there is enough funds to beautify downtown.
Business owners came to the city council meeting on Tuesday to voice their opinion about the fee. Some agreed with the fee to improve the downtown area, but some non-profit business owners were skeptical. Despite comments against the fee, the city council approved of the proposal and the fee will start next month. The committee say they are aware of the non-profits and that when the fee increase expires in a year they'll come up with a different, long-term plan.
People can expect to see changes in the downtown area beginning next month.
