YAKIMA, Wash -- Litter bugs beware. You will be caught and fined.
A state wide campaign kicked off today in Yakima to stop the most dangerous types of littering.
State troopers are going after drivers with unsecured loads, and people who throw out lit cigarettes.
More than 10 million pounds of litter gets tossed or flies out of vehicles each year.
A ticket for an unsecured load is about 200 dollars, while throwing a lit cigarette will cost you over a thousand. If anyone is hurt or property is damaged, violators could be looking at fines in the thousands of dollars and possible jail time.
