Yakima Police Department is Undergoing an Independent Review
YAKIMA, Wa - The Yakima Police Department is preparing for a full independent review.
Chief Sam Granato says it will help identify areas within the department that need improvement, as well as keep liability insurance costs down.
The review will be conducted by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. Active duty police chiefs from around the state will conduct reviews of 16 specific areas.
Chief Granato says he would've done this as soon as he was hired if he had known about it then.
"Having looked at what was done in Spokane and they have done numerous types of reviews and talked to chiefs who have had it done. They say it's an invaluable tool and it's helped them greatly."
Chief Granato says it's also a good deal. The review by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs will cost $8,500. He says a similar review that was done by another agency when he worked in Texas cost $150,000.
