Train Derailment in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Burlington Northern train derails in Yakima. State Patrol says four train cars carrying butane gas were on their side Sunday night.

Around four o'clock Sunday afternoon officials say they received a call from a passerby who saw the train on it's side. The derailed cars are near Washington Avenue, between 1st Street and Longfibre Avenue- near Hansen Fruit.

State Patrol worked with Yakima fire to secure the area, about a 1/4-mile radius around the accident site.

They say no injuries have been reported and so far there have been no gas leaks detected.

Washington State Patrol Sergeant Ethan Reavis says, "A couple things I can tell you about the derailment. We believe at the time it derailed that the train was abandoned and it had rolled to a slow speed and then probably rolled over."

State Patrol says there are no traffic delays or slow downs to report because of the derailment. Burlington Northern has been contacted and they expect the clean up to take at least a couple of days.
