League of Women's Voters to Discuss Changing Benton County Seat
KENNEWICK, Wash.- Work continues on an effort to relocate the Benton County County seat in Kennewick.
The jail and courtrooms are already located in Kennewick, and with most of the county's population living in the Tri-Cities, groups are pushing to move the seat here as well.
A petition to get the issue on the ballot is already circulating, now, the League of Women Voters is getting out to study support for the change.
"We're not actually trying to change anybody's mind at this point. What we're trying to do is gather information, so, at each of those meetings I'll be handing out slips of paper so that people can say where they would like to see the county seat," said Ginger Vetrano, who's heading up the LWV's effort.
The League hasn't taken a stance on the issue, they're just studying it, but supporters of the move say most county services and residents are already here in the Tri-Cities, so putting the county seat here makes sense.
