DEARBORN, Mich. - Ford Motor Company is recalling one of it's sport utility vehicles. Brake problems with the Ford Escape may lead to engine fires.
Ford started receiving reports that corrosion on antilock brake connectors may be the cause behind some recent engine fires.
And it believes more than 500,000 Escapes may be faulty.
The model years involved are from 2001 to 2004. However, Ford claims the hybrid version of the Escape is not effected, and the hybrid's should be safe to drive.
Ford said so far about 50 engines fires have been connected to the problem. However, there have been no reports of accidents or injuries.
The problem stems from missing or improperly installed seals on the wiring harness of the antilock brake connectors.
If you think your Escape may be effected, contact your local dealer.
