YAKIMA, Wash -- A two time officer of the year will not be returning to duty with the Yakima Police Department.
Today, the City of Yakima officially announced the termination of Jeff Brownfield. The decorated officer has been on administrative leave since 2005.
Brownfield says he was fired because he exposed possible fraud at the Police Athletic League.
City manager Dick Zais says he is unfit for duty, and in a statement released today, said "Jeff Brownfield is being terminated for discipline misconduct including repeatedly violating personnel policies and rule relating to obeying orders and insubordination."
In February, Zais also told KNDO-TV that city doctors would not allow Brownfield to return to duty because of issues pertaining to his health.
