Federal Approval of the Spokane Tribal-State Gaming Compact
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Tribe is excited to see 16 years of negotiations and litigation finally end with Federal approval of the Spokane Tribal-State Gaming Compact.
George Skibine, United States Department of the Interior Acting Deputy Assistant states in a letter to the Spokane Tribe; We have completed our review of this Compact and conclude that it does not violate the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, any other provision of Federal law that does not relate to jurisdiction over gaming on Indian lands, or the trust obligations of the United States to Indians. The Compact shall take effect when the March 29, 2007 approval is published in the Federal Register.
The Spokane Tribal Business Council wants to acknowledge the hard work from the Washington State Attorney General’s office, the Washington State Gambling Commission and the Governor’s office to make the Spokane Tribal-State Compact a reality.
The approval of our Tribal-State Gaming Compact promises to benefit not only our Tribe but the entire region as well, creating needed jobs and boosting the local economy.
