Toppenish School Pushed for Year-Long Schedule

Posted: Updated:

Toppenish, WASH - Kirkwood Elementary in Toppenish wants to change to a modified school schedule and wants other schools in the lower valley to join them.  This means that students would be in the classroom for 45 days then receive three weeks off, this pattern continuing throughout the year.

The school has done research that shows a decrease in reading skills after the student returns from summer break.  The school says that the modified schedule would prevent students from forgetting what they've learned from the previous year.

An informational meeting in the school's library for all community members in the lower valley who speak spanish will be held April 25th at 6 P.M. and a meeting in english will be held May 9th at 6 P.M.
