Honoring Volunteers in Pasco

PASCO, Wash. -- Pasco city officials honored over 450 volunteers Thursday night for over 16,000 hours of community service.

Edmon Daniels was one of the many honored. He volunteers with the Pasco Parks and Rec. Department and coaches kids in baseball and basketball. Daniels says, "I was just looking around and seeing so many kids that didn't have anything to do so I just volunteered."

Like other volunteers we talked to, Daniels says he sees volunteering not just as something fun to do but as something everyone should do. He says, "I's just a good feeling. I can look in the mirror and say ha. It's a good feeling."

Pasco Mayor Pro Tem Matt Watkins says that volunteers saved the city over $140,000 with their work. Watkins expressed his appreciation. He said, "Good on you for volunteering, your making the city of Pasco a better place to live."

Thursday night, the volunteers that gathered at the Pasco Senior center were rewarded with prizes for their service to their community. But Edmon Daniels he gets a much greater reward when volunteering. He says, "I have kids that come up to me and say this is Mr. Daniels. He did this for me when I was a kid. And that's the joy, that's the payment right there."
