YAKIMA, Wash -- The Committee for Downtown Yakima says they have reached their fundraising goal of $300,000.
With the goal met, the City of Yakima will now match it with the $300,000, giving the committee $600,000 to help revitalize downtown Yakima.
Some of the money has already been spent on an economic development and parking study. But much of it will go to cleaning up downtown. It will also help pay for downtown ambassadors this summer.
"When we have ambassadors," said Sean Hawkins, of the Committee for Downtown Yakima, "they are not only a friendly tool for residents, but also for visitors."
The ambassadors will keep downtown friendly, clean and attractive to businesses and residents.
And soon more people will be living downtown, construction will begin during the next few weeks on new downtown condos.
