YAKIMA, Wash -- There could be a new face representing Yakima in Olympia.
Today local businessman Curtis King announced his candidacy for the Washington State Senate. His announcement means he will be taking on fellow Republican Senator Jim Clements, the current Senator from the 14th District.
King says the Yakima valley isn't better off after a more than a decade of representation by Clements. He believes crime has gotten worse, taxes are higher and there is more regulation than ever - choking the valley and keeping it from advancing.
"We need to keep the valley prosperous," said King. "We need a good education system. We need things that will keep our kids here and our grand kids here."
Clements says he is not concerned though.
"We will meet on the political battle field, said Clements. "I look forward to that because now we can get all the issues on the table."
The primary will be held later this summer, on August 21st.
