YAKIMA, Wash -- High market prices around the world for metals like copper and aluminum, mean recyclers constantly see stolen metal.
But a new law in Washington should make it harder to sell stolen metal.
The law requires metal recyclers get a phone number, home address and vehicle information about the customers who brings in metal. Recyclers also must mail checks to customers who bring in metal worth more than $50.00.
The law will also increase the penalty for stealing metal. Thieves could now face up to ten years in jail.
