YAKIMA, Wash -- The goal is to enhance the visual appearance of the main highways around Yakima - and today the first sign was unveiled.
City and local officials unveiled the first of two "Welcome to Yakima" signs.
They were installed last week as part of the project to widen SR 24 at I-82.
The sun was chosen because of its importance to the local fruit and wine industry. Additional sunshine sculptures will also decorate the Nob Hill overpass -- complimenting the the two welcome signs.
