Three Child Luring Incidents in West Richland

WEST RICHLAND, Wa.,--Last night, police say an 11-year-old boy was approached by a man in a "beat-up" vehicle offering candy. It happened at the Desert View Mobile Home Park on Van Giesen street around 7:30pm. The boy told his parents about what had happened and they called police. Two hours earlier, a 7-year-old girl was approached by a man in a full-size white van. And on wednesday afternoon, another event involving a 14-year old male. Chief of Police, Layne Erdman, says that each witness is describing those involved differently.

"Anytime you have witnesses, you can have those kind of discrepancies, so we don't know if we're dealing with the same person or if were dealing with different people," said Chief Erdman.

Parents are also very concerned.

"There's a lot of children in this neighborhood and we don't need that kind of activity going on," says one parent.

Erdman also said that his department has cross-referenced all known registered sex offenders with the Department of Corrections, although nothing has turned up. Police are asking anyone with information about any of these three cases to call (509) 628-0333.
