PROSSER, Wash. - A man Benton County Deputies were searching for turned up dead near the Chandler Canal in Prosser.
Yakima native, 31-year-old Dino Guerrero allegedly fled deputies on foot Sunday morning. He was the passenger in a car that was pulled over near Old Inland Empire Highway and Van Buren Road in Prosser.
Guerrero had two felony warrants for escape and possession of stolen property. Monday morning someone called 9-1-1 when they saw a body in the canal.
Authorities said it appeared to be an accidental drowning but a death investigation is underway. Deputies said the water in the canal might look safe but can be extremely unsafe.
Benton County Deputy Joe Lusignan said the canal can sometimes look inviting and calm but canals are inherently dangerous. He said it appears that Guerrero might have fled authorities by jumping into the water.
Authorities said he was staying in the Prosser area with friends. An autopsy is scheduled with the Benton County Coroner.
