Connell Art Teacher Heads for Iraq

CONNELL, Wa.,--Annette Lomeli needed to provide telephone communication support for her National Guard Troop 242, Combat and Communications Squadron.

Lomeli is putting away her paintbrush and pencils at Robert Olds Junior High to fight for our country. Lomeli is supported by Basin City Elementary School Principal, Jim Jacobs -- who returned from Iraq last winter.

"Because we care for them, obviously, we wouldn't, ya know, otherwise we wouldn't be doing what we do, not only here at the school, but going away also," said Lomeli.

"They want to go do what they know how to do and what they've trained to do," said Jacobs.

Students lined up to say their heartfelt good-bye's to Lomeli. Her students and colleagues say she is a great role model: one that holds very high standards for herself as well as her students.

Lomeli will be deployed Monday, May 14th.
