RICHLAND, Wash. - Authorities said a family is lucky to be alive after their car flips on the highway.
Washington State Patrol Troopers said it happened at 10:45 Sunday morning.
Trooper David Kaiser said the driver started to change lanes, but noticed a van in his blind spot and over corrected the wheel which forced his red car to rollover on the side of I-182 Westbound.
The driver and his wife were with their 12-week old dog, which they had just picked up Saturday night. They said they were thankful they had her locked in a crate during the time of the accident.
Kaiser said, "The seat belts prevented any injury, had they not been wearing their seat belts who knows what could have happened. They could have been ejected from the vehicle."
The couple had minor cuts and bruises. They said they were glad that infant was not with them during the accident.
The car was seriously damaged and towed from the scene. Troopers cited the driver for unsafe lane change.
