KENNEWICK, Wash. - Benton PUD and Jaco Environmental want to help you get rid of that old refrigerator sitting in your garage.
It's pretty easy to do, you just have to call to schedule a pick-up time. There are a couple of stipulations, though.
The refrigerator you're recycling must still work, that way, about 90% of its parts can be recycled. It needs to be at least 14 cubic feet large. The program is only available to Benton PUD customers, and other participating utilities.
A company spokeswoman says old, inefficient spare refrigerators waste energy and money. The utility is offering a $40 incentive to customers who use the recycling program. They can also help you save $25 on the purchase of a new, energy-efficient refrigerator.
