KENNEWICK, Wash.- A group of Benton County residents is making a push to raise sales tax by 0.3% to generate extra revenue for the criminal justice system.
The group submitted their proposal to the Benton County commissioners Wednesday morning.
The commissioners kept the issue off the ballot two years ago because it was unclear. They say it's better now, but still want more details on where the money will be going before they make a final decision.
The proposal would help fund police, jails, and courts in Benton County. The tax would bring an estimated $1.3 million to Kennewick Police alone each year.
