Single Mom Gets Habitat Home in Pasco
PASCO, Wash. -- It was a long time coming, but today one mom finally got a new home for her family. Christy Herrin and her two boys had been bouncing around between houses for years.
Friday, Habitat for Humanity presented her with a new home and she had trouble hiding her emotion. She recieved the keys along with gifts from people around the community. This is the first of 10 homes that Habitat will build in the Tierra Vida Development on A Street in Pasco.
Herrin says she looks forward to working in her garden and finally having her own space. But most of all she said she is glad she finally has a place her kids can call home. She says, "It allows us to get together, to watch a T.V. show together, hang out on the couch, be a family."
Christy's son Kody says, "She's really deserving of this. This is a big deal to our family and it's about time."Christy spent about 500 hours of her own time building the house. Horizon Air employees also spent a lot of time working on it and they donated $50,000 dollars for supplies. Christy says she is thankful for all the work that the people at Horizon and Habitat put in.
