BENTON CITY, Wash. - A group of Benton City 8th graders were featured in a commercial during American Idol on May 23.
Eight girls from Kiona-Benton Middle School made a video encouraging their peers to not smoke cigarettes. There were 200 other videos submitted in the contest. Their video was one of the six entries selected in the statewide competition.
It is call part of the "No Stank You", an anti-smoking campaign run by the Washington Department of Health.
The students are part of a group called SAVE--Students Against Violence Everywhere. They focus on violence prevention and creating awareness on the dangers of tobacco and other drug use.
The teens said making the video has been a challenge but they were thrilled to be on television.
The 30-second video was on Wednesday night during the first hour of American Idol that started at 8 clock.
