UNITED STATES.,--A new survey by GMAC Insurance says close to 36 million people would not be able to pass the driver's license exam.
The questions deal with common driver scenarios. What to do when approaching an intersection as well as the steps to take during a tire blow-out.
There are 20 questions in total, which are pulled from actual state DMV license exams. In light of the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, the survey says one in six drivers is considered to be unfit behind the wheel. A spokesman for Washington's State Department of Licensing admits studies like this are useful, but there's a fine line in determining how a driver will react in a real world situation.
"We don't think that there's a real strong correlation between how somebody might do on a written test on any given day, and their actual performance on the road," according to Spokesman Brad Benfield.
Out of all states, drivers in Washington scored 6th place with an average test score of 80%.
