YAKIMA, Wash -- The Yakima Greenway is beefing up security this summer.
Police bike patrol officers will be out seven days a week, from dawn to dusk. They will work with over eighty volunteers who drive the ten mile path in golf carts, providing water and watching out for suspicious activity.
"They are the eyes and ears," said Jeff Brantner of the Yakima Greenway Foundation, "they obviously are not going to confront anyone. Just watching."
If they do see something, they can radio police and give exact locations thanks to painted position markers. The little yellow signs are painted every quarter of a mile.
