Second Grade Students Become Published Authors

Posted: Updated:

Kennewick -- Over two dozen kids at Sunset View Elementary have become published authors.  Tuesday, they received the hardbound books they have been waiting for for several months.

The book features essays written about Springtime.  Each essay is made up of five paragraphs and has a personal illustration from the author next to it.

The children, all about eight years old, are students in Patty Kopp's second grade class.  She sent their essays to a publisher in Kansas a few months ago.  Tuesday, the books were delivered directly to the hands of the kids.

Comments from the kids included self-critiques such as "I think I could have done better," and, "It was fair."

Other children said they were excited, that the work was "magnificent;" and still others pondered their futures.  One went so far as to say he'd like to write an expository book on whales.  He also commented that he had been thinking about dedicating the book to his parents.

Parents purchased the specially printed and bound books for their children and family members.
